St. Cuthbert’s Oratory is Southampton’s house of prayer and intercession. We live to change the world one prayer at a time.
God has called us to pray. This is the work of our lives now as,
- We pray unceasingly for God’s purpose throughout God’s world
- We encourage and enable individuals and groups to encounter and serve God through prayer
As St Francis heard God invite him to rebuild God’s church, so we have been called to pray and serve in rebuilding God’s church in faith and mission through prayer and practical encouragement in spiritual growth and development.
Oratory Rhythm
- a routine of daily prayer – morning, evening and night prayer.
- intercession every afternoon at 15:00, the hour Jesus gave up his life on the Cross.
Encouraging Others
- Retreats:
- five, single day retreats (9:30-17:00) held in the Oratory each year
- five online retreats each year
- Spiritual accompaniment: together exploring where God is at work in life and listening to what God is saying. This is either face to face or online
- Personal retreats: hosted in the Oratory. We can design a personalised programme with you, or you can simply follow your own path. All refreshments and meals are included. You choose how many days you want your retreat to run.
- Grow the Godseed: the Oratory’s carefully developed spiritual coaching and encouragement course. It offers a framework, offered over ten sessions, to encourage individual growth in prayer and integrating spiritual experience with work, leisure and family life. Please enquire for further details.
- The ‘Be Still and Know’ day retreat is something Jayne and I can bring to your small group, cell or wider congregation. This can be face to face or online. It offers an introduction to the purpose and practice of retreat and how it can be incorporated within a demanding lifestyle.
- We also provide bespoke retreats and pilgrimages for individuals, groups, church leadership teams, organisational directors etc. These support your own call in finding a fresh focus in your spiritual purpose and facilite practical discernment processes as you loook to the future. If this is something that might benefit your or your team please either email stcuthbertsoratory@gmail.com or phone.
B&B is available at the Oratory for £75 per night in our one ensuite guest room and access to a personal lounge. An evening meal is available for an additional £15. Group accommodation is available locally in the Widsdom Centre, Romsey.
For other arrangements please enquire for details and email Micha.

Hi Micha and Jayne, can you provide details of where you host labyrinth walks please?
Hi Debbie. We use the lovely Labyrinth in Wisdom House grounds, Romsey.
How would I organise for myself and a couple of friends to come over and learn this with you? Do you have specific dates or ad hoc? Thank you 😊
We can arrange a date. I usually invite people to the Oratory just outside Romsey for refreshments and to talk about the Labyrinth before driving together into Romsey and exploring the Labyrinth experience. Then back to the Oratory for a time of reflection.
Ok great, would it be best if I give you a call to discuss dates, cost etc and when is the best time to call as I appreciate you are busy. Thanks, debbie.
Thanks, Debbie. Been leading a Retreat today. Drop an email to stcuthbertsoratory@gmail.com with your number and I’ll call you. Thanks. Micha
Just checking you have all the contact info you need. Looking forward to hosting and leading your Labarynth walk. Micha

Hi Sally I appear to have neglected to reply to your enquiry for which I deeply apologise. Can I say that retreat details are published on the site stcuthbertsoratory.com. However, in this season of lockdown everything is on hold. I’d be more than happyb to talk with you either on the phone or via Zoom if you are still interested in chatting. Our retreats are limited to six people which makes a group of eight including Jayne and myself. We take time to introduce ourselves to each other reflect around a theme, enjoy personal space to explore what God is saying and how God is present in the moment for us individually. There is opportunity for each person’e voice to be heard as we regather each time, yet never pressure to speak. Some individuals like to share something and we feel it’s important to make space for that for all of our benefit. Whilst we currently avertise a charge for the retreats, we are moving to change this to a donation basis since we feel this is mor in keeping with the ministry of Jesus. Each day includes refreshments and home cooked two course lunch.
Our primary work is prayer. We offer spiritual direction/accompaniment and coaching.
AS I say happy to talk and again please forgive my rudeness i failing to pick this up before. Every blessing. Micha
Please can I have information on retreats?
Thank you.
Kim I appear to have neglected your enquiry. Me deepest apologies. Retreat details are always on the website, stcuthbertsoratory.com. However, in this time of lockdown I am about to explore a retreat via Zoom on Friday this week if you are interested – no charges apply. There will be some inout, then time offline to reflect and praye, before returning to an nline Zoom meeting to share and continue exploreing God’s heart. The theme will be vulnerability. Let me know if you areinterested. And do keep in touch. We are a home of prayer, so any prayer requests please do let us have. We have an intercessory prayer time at 15:00 each day. Many blessings, Micha
